The Powerful Diet That Saved This Dog's Life

The right food can be life changing for your dog. I see it in the pets I treat every day, but I’ve also seen it drastically change the health and quality of life in my own dogs.

We lost my baby girl Kacee a few months ago, when she was nearly 15 years old. She ended up living well past her expected life span. But more than that, she lived a good quality of life. And I know 100% it was due to the food she got.

Now, she wasn’t fed a completely homecooked diet- she was 80 pounds and I simply couldn’t keep up with her caloric needs- but she WAS fed a healthy, high quality diet that was tailored to exactly what her body needed.

And through this special meal plan, we were able to keep her body strong, prevent disease, and slow down the aging process, giving her a few extra years of adventures and snuggles with us on the couch.

But it wasn’t always like that. Before I truly understood what I should be feeding her, she actually got really...

Is A Homecooked Diet ALWAYS Best?

Can I tell you how many times I’ve started feeding a completely homecooked diet for my dogs in the past, and then stopped... well, let’s just say too many times to count.

Sometimes I just didn’t have the time to keep up with it. Then there was always the expense of it- especially for 2 dogs. It was difficult having to go shopping for all the food and then spend hours in the kitchen cooking it (and then cleaning up from it!). Not to mention the headache of making sure it was balanced. It was always a struggle.

And I definitely felt guilty about that. I mean, my dogs are worth it right? They deserve the very best.

But after working with many other dog owners over the years, I realized I wasn’t alone. While many of us like the idea of a homecooked diet, the reality of it is much much different.

And if you’ve been feeling like that too, guess what? That’s OKAY! I know your dog means the world to you, but just because you can’t...

The Ultimate Diet for Your Dog’s Health and Longevity

As your dog’s getting older, you might be wondering “Should I be doing anything differently with their food?” or “Are they getting everything their body needs for the years ahead?”

If that sounds familiar, you’re not alone! And it’s definitely good to ask these questions while your dog’s still healthy. ‘Cause more than 95% of dogs just aren’t getting the food they need to nourish their body to keep them healthy in their senior years.

The needs of a dog who is 7 years and older are VERY different from a dog who’s younger than that. And simply feeding a diet labeled for “seniors” just isn’t enough. Your dog needs more than that.

That’s because what your dog eats every single day NOW will greatly impact their health down the road. And you should be targeting specific areas of their health using their food so that you can extend their lifespan and PREVENT issues as they age.

The *very...

9 Foods to Combat Disease At Home

A few weeks ago my sister was telling me that for the past few months her older dog Maggie was starting to have accidents in the house while they’re at work. She just couldn’t “hold it” all day anymore. My sister asked if there were any foods that might help.

Maggie has a Water constitution, making her more prone to developing urinary issues. I started thinking about how maybe if we’d started foods to support her bladder and kidneys earlier we could help, but I was worried that the damage was already done...

… I just didn’t have much hope that foods could resolve the issue. So I was honest and told her “Well it’s not going to hurt her, but I’m not sure it’s going to help.” But I gave her a list of some foods she could add to Maggie’s diet anyway.

I didn’t hear from my sister for a while, then surprise! She tells me a few days ago that Maggie hasn’t had ANY accidents since she started...

3 Diet Tips To Extend Your Dog’s Lifespan

I fed a high quality dry kibble diet to my dogs for years. I’d always been told it was the healthiest and most balanced food for them. That’s even what I was taught in vet school! Sure, my dogs would get treats and the occasional table scrap, but the base of the diet was dry kibble.

And my dog’s did just fine. They seemed healthy.

But then I started my acupuncture training, and learned to look for subtle changes internally that couldn’t be seen from the outside, not even on bloodwork. Over time, these internal changes lead to disease. And when I examined my dogs, I found these internal imbalances!

I couldn’t believe it! My dogs were bright and happy, they were getting around just fine, their bloodwork looked great... but they weren’t as healthy as I thought, even if they looked it from the outside!

Turns out their food was the culprit. They just weren’t getting everything their bodies truly needed from that food.

So I...

You’ll Never Guess Which Diseases You Can Prevent in YOUR Dog (and HOW)

How would it feel if you could predict what ailments your dog would get as they age, and then actually PREVENT them from happening?

Amazing? Empowering? Scream from the rooftop exciting?

Well I have good news for you then!

You can actually predict some of the diseases your dog’s prone to developing in the future. That’s because each different constitution is prone to getting specific diseases and issues.

But what’s really incredible is that you can then use the food your dog eats every single day to help prevent those diseases from happening!

Pretty amazing, right?

Here’s the important part though: Whether your dog’s still completely healthy or already starting to show their age, this is the time to take action! Because prevention is always better than scrambling to treat a disease once it occurs.

Wondering what ailments your dog’s prone to developing? Find your dog’s constitution below to find out. Not sure...

The Truth About What Your Dog *Should* Be Eating

Think your dog’s getting a good healthy diet just because you’re feeding a healthy brand of dog food?

I used to think that too.

A few years ago I had my dog Kacee on a high quality expensive brand of dog food. She was getting the best... or so I thought. But suddenly she got really, really sick. She was restless and pacing. She was panting and couldn’t settle down. And then she got really weak. She even stopped eating. And her body was HOT!

All of her tests at the hospital came back normal. But she continued to get worse.

That’s when I learned that the chicken based food I was feeding her was too hot for her. And it was throwing her body into chaos, causing her to overheat, and making her really sick.

You see, she was a dog with a Fire constitution, and chicken was the wrong food for her constitution. The food I was giving her was making her sick.

But I didn’t know that before. I mean, she was on a good quality food.

Simplify Cooking For Your Dog (with these 5 easy strategies)

You already know there are so many benefits to adding fresh foods to your dog’s daily diet- the extra nutrients, the extra moisture, less highly processed ingredients, improved quality, etc.- but actually cooking the foods consistently is another story.

It can seem like a big commitment especially when you have a busy schedule or aren’t comfortable in the kitchen.

I get it. For the past few years, I’ve added fresh foods to my dogs’ daily diets. That is, until a few months ago, when life got really busy. It was hard enough to find time to cook for husband and me, yet alone find time to cook additional foods for my dogs. Yes, they’d get bits and pieces of our meals, but it wasn’t the same.

I knew they should be getting fresh foods, and I wanted to be feeding them fresh foods, but I couldn’t seem to find the time. Of course I felt guilty about it. But actually being able to do it was another story.

And maybe you struggle to keep up...

How The Right Food Saved This Dog’s Life, Again and Again

We almost lost our sweet girl years ago. And then multiple times since. Yes, food has the power to transform lives. And I’ve seen it happen over and over again. But sometimes the right food can actually save lives too.

You’ve probably heard me talk about my senior dog Kacee, but I haven’t shared her entire amazing journey, the multiple sudden life-threatening diseases she developed, and how the right foods saved her life again and again.

But she inspires me every single day and I want to share that inspiration with you too.

It Started With Many Sleepless Nights

When we adopted Kacee (she was 10 years old) and I fed her what I thought was a good healthy food- a senior formula dry kibble diet. But a year later, she suddenly seemed to go crazy one night. She couldn’t sleep and she was restless, panting, and pacing… all night long! All the tests came back normal and we couldn’t figure out why. For 2 weeks this went on.

It was assumed to...
